Hotel Il Palazzo

A nice, quiet place to stay at night, just down the road from the basilica of St Francis. Breakfast was good too.

There was plenty to like here: the rooms were large and clean, the location was great, and the view from the Juliette balcony was stunning. The price was great value, the staff were lovely, and they gave us a great dinner recommendation. The bathroom was great too, with a large shower and strong water pressure. On the downside, the bed and pillows were very uncomfortable and extra firm. There was no A/C before June 1st, so the room stayed hot even with the door open at night. A loud, possibly concert outside could be heard until midnight with the door and window shut. I'd come back if the A/C were available, or there were even a fan, and if the beds were more comfortable.

We visited in May, before the air conditioning had been turned on. We had to leave the windows open, which let in some street noise. The room itself was lovely, comfortable, clean, and nicely decorated. The front desk suggested driving up to drop our bags and then parking outside town, but the steep, crowded pedestrian streets of Assisi are tricky to drive on. We decided to park first and carry our bags up instead. The hotel is well placed for visiting Assisi.

The staff made us feel at home with their kindness and helpful recommendations. When we asked, they went out of their way to cook eggs for my daughter and us, which was a lovely gesture. Breakfast was great too. We booked the suite with the painting on the ceiling. Every detail felt carefully considered, and it was one of the best rooms we've stayed in. It was as clean as a room can be, with fine details everywhere, and I strongly recommend it despite the price difference. The hotel is within walking distance of everywhere we wanted to go in Assisi. Reaching it by car wasn't difficult, since it was on a one-way street as you enter the rear end of town. You can stop at the entrance briefly to unload bags, then park outside town, about a five minute walk away, because of the ZTL Rules, not the Hotel. I'd stay here 100 of 100 times. You can book without a doubt.
