I only got to see the outside of the building, which is visibly original and quite interesting. The symbolism also helped me understand where the term "lodge" used for Masonic lodges comes from, through an institution that grew out of medieval master architects.

The Loggia dei Maestri Comacini is a beautiful building in Assisi's historic center, on the main street, Via San Francesco. You can recognize its typical medieval facade and the marble slab bearing its name, as shown in my photo. At present, visitors can only see it from outside. Some of its architectural features carry symbols connected to the work of the master masons: the compass is carved there, along with the mallet and set square. The Maestri Comacini were construction professionals who worked on the design and building of the majestic Basilica of San Francesco, as well as other sites around the city. It's still a lovely building, even if the interior can't be visited.

The owner was kind, available, courteous and tactful. The place itself is a little gem, right by the Basilica, exceptionally clean and so well equipped that nothing seems to be missing.

It's compact, but has everything we needed. Mr. Ferdinando was very kind and even gave us water and prosecco, which we really appreciated. We had a great stay.
