Agriturismo Monte Criscione

We were four adults and one child at dinner, and the bill came to 180 euros. We shared four antipasti, ordered five pasta dishes and had four desserts, plus two liters of wine. Everything was vegetarian, no fish or meat. The food was good, but the portions were quite small and the price very high. It worked out to 36 euros per person, child included. Nearby, you can get the same kind of food for much less. Sorry to say it, but it wasn’t worth going all the way up there and paying so much. There are other local restaurants with a similar meal for about half the price.

Breakfast was generous, and Alessandro made sure he knew what we liked. We were lucky to be there during the citrus harvest, so we got freshly picked oranges from the farm’s own orchard, the best I’ve ever tasted. The ripe black olives from their trees were superb too. The place is peaceful in the citrus groves in the hills above Avola. Alessandro went out of his way to make us comfortable, with very personal, attentive service. His parents cooked delicious Sicilian food at home. The antipasti were superb, and changed each of the three nights we stayed. Prices were reasonable, including a half liter of excellent local wine between us. Highly recommended.

Finding the way to the restaurant isn’t easy, but the meal made the effort worthwhile. It was authentic, and we really enjoyed it. The prices are fair, and the antipasti are especially varied and delicious. Absolutely recommend it, go!

Lovely location. The appetizers, wine and dessert were good, but the food felt a little overpriced for what we got. The primo course was very average.
