Nel Cielo... di Barga

Julie was a gracious, helpful host, easy to reach when we wanted local advice and otherwise discreet. We still think of this stay, six months later, as a highlight of our trip to Italy, and apologize for taking so long to write about a place and host worth recognizing. The balcony and the view from the main room were the real magic: Barga seems to tumble below you, with mountain scenery unfolding beyond it. The room itself was among the best we’ve stayed in, spacious enough for a longer visit, spotless, beautifully furnished, and fitted with plenty of storage. The bed was heavenly. The bathroom was just as immaculate, with fluffy towels, shampoo and soap, and the shower was wonderful. We especially appreciated the underfloor heating during our November visit. Though designed in period stone style, the three-level building is newly built, so all the fittings were fresh, high quality, and worked perfectly. The guest room is on the top floor, reached by the main entrance and staircase, separate from Julie’s own accommodation, which gave us good privacy. It’s right in the old town, just steps from lovely bars and restaurants. One practical point for anyone with limited mobility: there are quite a few steps to manage on foot with luggage to reach the property, and then another staircase to the room. That’s unavoidable given the location. If you can walk 200 meters and roll a suitcase, it shouldn’t be a problem. That’s the only possible downside we can think of. Julie offers a first-class stay in a wonderful setting.
