Convento Di San Colombo Dimora Storica

The setting alone made me happy: the Convento is wrapped in mixed hardwood forest, with beautiful views of Bariciano and Barisciano Castle from the front door. Mornings were so quiet, with lovely bird songs, and birding starts right outside. The Floristic Research Center of the Apennines is also part of the Convento, with a lovely botanical garden, trails, and labeled plants. As a wildlife biologist and naturalist, I was in heaven. The road from Barisciano puts you right in the heart of Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, and it’s a handy base for the main natural sights and villages in the national parks. Our superior double room was spotless, smelled fresh, and had unbelievably beautiful views. The water stood out to my wife most of all. She said it was the cleanest and softest we’ve ever had, and she’s still talking about how easily she washed her hair and how soft her skin felt after a shower. The Convento itself was wonderfully quiet and peaceful. Breakfast was superb, with coffee or cappuccino, fresh local pastries, meats, cheeses, and eggs. The young woman managing things while we were there was so kind and helpful. I can’t remember her name, but she made our stay even nicer. We loved our time at Convento Di San Colombo so much that I almost want to keep it a secret. When we’re back in Abruzzo, we’ll definitely stay there again.

We spent three days here and had a really good stay. The area is quiet and the surroundings are what make this place special, so don’t come expecting fancy decor. Our room was clean and had everything we needed. The staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was good quality, with both savoury and sweet options. I’ve regretted it at other Italian hotels when they only serve sweet things, so I appreciated the choice. Thanks again.

We were travelling with a baby and the staff were very welcoming and happy to accommodate us. The rooms are a little basic, but they’re nice, the en suite and shower were great, and breakfast had a good variety. We also enjoyed our dinner here. There’s a herb garden and grounds you can walk around, and the hotel has beautiful views.

The monastery building is lovely, and when we arrived the manager showed us the old church attached to it. We liked the garden too, though it could use more attention from a gardener. The room was simple but had everything we needed, with plenty of space, good cleanliness, a great view, and a comfortable bed. The staff and management did a great job making us feel welcome. They were happy to answer our questions and tell us about the region. Breakfast was very good, and the waiter handling the service was very professional. Alongside the usual Italian breakfast of cakes, fruit, yoghurt, and muffins, they had eggs, scrambled or baked, and nice coffee or cappuccino. It’s a very pleasant hotel in the middle of Abruzzo, and we loved it. We’d recommend staying here.
