For 45 years I’ve been visiting Napoli regularly, and this was the nicest accommodation my wife and I have ever had there. We spent a wonderful week at Le Janare. The rooms have been renovated and furnished with real taste, and the bathrooms are very comfortable. When needed, the windows shut out the lively sounds of Napoli, and there’s air conditioning for the hot months. Breakfast was delicious, with special requests accommodated, and was served on two lovely rooftop terraces of different sizes, both with great views. The place is an ideal base for excursions around the city. It’s a wonderful oasis in the historic center, on Via Atri at the corner of Via Dei Tribunali, so you can hardly be more central. Vittorio, his partner, and the staff were all lovely and helpful.

I’ve stayed in quite a few places in Naples, and this is the best. Vittorio was a great host, and the location made it easy to explore. There are fabulous views of the city and Mt Vesuvius, with sorbello pizza right outside. The beds were super comfortable, too. Having coffee on the terrace in the morning before heading down into the busy city was the perfect start to the day. We can’t wait to come back soon.

We could walk to just about anywhere in the city, with great cafés and restaurants nearby. The rooftop was a quiet place to have breakfast or take an afternoon break, and our room was large, airy, and bright. Vittorio and the team went out of their way to make late check-in easy and help us arrange transport when we left.

The location was incredible. We could walk to all the main sights, a convenient metro station, and one of the city’s famous pizzerias just around the corner. Across from it, we found a drinks spot where we got limoncello spritz every night before going back. Despite being in such a busy nightlife area, we felt safe around the hotel and throughout the city, and had no problems. The room was just like the pictures, clean, and the hair dryer was especially good, powerful unlike the usual hotel ones. The A/C worked well, and when the room was cleaned every two days they replenished the biscuits we often took along for the day. The windows also blocked the outside noise well, so we could sleep even with people drinking outside. We liked the building too. It felt residential, and it was interesting to see what seemed like a traditional Napolitan home. There were a couple of small hassles. The toilet paper was nearly gone when we arrived, and there were no spares in the room. We kept forgetting to ask for more, which was frustrating, though they left an extra roll at the first cleaning. We were also startled one morning to open the blackout curtains in our pajamas and see children in a school across the street. Breakfast was okay, but didn’t feel very fresh. The yogurt, granola, and cappuccino were good, but there weren’t savory options, and most of the food, especially the cakes, was packaged. I know savory breakfast isn’t common in Italy, but some butter and fresh bread would have been enough. I wouldn’t expect the one person working there to cook eggs on demand, but fresh bread in the morning doesn’t seem like too much to ask in southern Europe. Fresh fruit instead of only compote would also be nice. The beds were quite hard, which might suit people who sleep on their backs. I needed an extra pillow under my hips to sleep on my side without pain. One thing to keep in mind is the climb to the fourth floor. We arrived in a rush, but they greeted us with water. The stairs were good training for all the walking and climbing on our tours, especially Pompeii, but the place isn’t suitable if you have mobility issues.
