Saint Patrick B&B Guesthouse

The location is right in the center of Barletta, and our room was clean when we arrived with towels provided. Apart from that, our three-night stay was the worst B&B experience we've had while traveling in southern Italy. The biggest problem was privacy. You could hear everything from rooms beside and below us, and our room had an open glass wall where people could see you passing by, and hear what you said. One night, the guests downstairs yelled at us for talking in a normal voice. At other times, voices from the next room woke us up. Breakfast was advertised as included, but it was at a bar five minutes away and meant only one croissant and one coffee, not the unlimited breakfast the B&B owner had described. The bar is closed on Mondays, so there was no breakfast that day, with no warning. We barely saw the owner except when getting and returning the keys, and got little information. The shared bathroom was dirty, had no windows, was hardly cleaned, and there were no fresh towels. We also weren't given a receipt at the end. Money was taken from my credit card without warning. It felt like the rooms were being rented out for money without much care for the guests.

For the price, it's an okay place, with a spacious, clean room in a very good spot in the old town. But there's barely any sound insulation, so you hear everything. The city center gets lively at night, with lots of partying, and it was hard to get a good night's sleep. The toilets also don't have a proper wall, so you have to pay attention to ventilation in the room. The owner, who is supposed to be there to speak English, was absent much of the time. If you don't speak Italian, it's hard, since nobody else speaks English. I also left a ring on the bedside table for a couple of days, but it was gone after the cleaner had been in the room. After hours of trying to sort it out, the cleaner said she thought it was a piece of plastic and threw it away. The owner offered to pay for it, so that's okay, but the whole thing was crazy. Honestly, I should give this place zero points.

The rooftop terrace was a nice feature, and the place was fairly clean, though dust under the bed seemed to have been there a long time and some furniture still had assembly manuals inside. The bedroom was cramped, with the smallest shower I've ever seen. The area is already noisy because the hotel is in a party spot, and the other guests shouted to each other at all hours, making a peaceful rest impossible. The bigger problem was our missing ring. It disappeared from the bedside table after the cleaning lady came in. The owner's father runs the hotel, and the owner is the only person who speaks any language besides Italian, but he was never there except once, when we insisted he come discuss the issue. We had to argue in Italian with the staff, who denied the ring was missing and blamed us. Eventually the cleaner admitted she'd thrown it in the garbage by mistake. The owner reimbursed the ring's sale price at that time, but it left us distrustful of the staff. I wouldn't stay there again, even at the low price. There are plenty of other B&Bs in the area, probably better.

The owner was extremely rude. The rooms have glass walls and no windows, and they're noisy and unclean. The owner comes and goes from the rooms whenever he pleases, even while you're inside. I really don't recommend it.
