We stayed for a week and used the place as a base for exploring the Lange valley. Barolo is close, and everywhere else we wanted to see was just a short drive away. The host was delightful, and our rustic room was clean and well furnished.

Il Gioco dell-Oca means “The Game of the Goose,” an old board game where players circle around and return to their starting point. Raffaella Pittatore sees a connection with coming back to her family home, which is where she now runs this eight-room bed-and-breakfast. The property belonged to her grandparents, and she remembers visiting it as a child while growing up near Alba. As an adult, she refurbished it and has been running the place for nearly 30 years. The rooms are comfortable, and she and her staff prepare breakfast each morning. Raffaella is also a winemaker, making a very small batch of Barolo each year, about a hundred cases. The wine is very good. This is a lovely place to stay in Barolo, and I’d highly recommend it if you’re visiting this part of Piedmont.

Raffaella runs this bed-and-breakfast, and she’ll do everything she can to make your stay memorable. Ask her for local suggestions, she knows all the great places to visit. It’s perfectly located, and this place will always mean a lot to me. I’ll tell any friends or family staying nearby to come here.

We were able to bring the kids, and Raffaella was accommodating when we needed something. The relaxed atmosphere was lovely, even with Barolo just a few minutes away by car. She’s a winemaker, so ask to taste her Barolo wine from Canubi. She also makes excellent pastries and a mean soft-boiled egg. We had a fantastic stay and would definitely stay here again on our next trip to Barolo.

The property is beautiful and has a character that really suits the area. It’s conveniently located between La Morra and Barolo. We hadn’t planned on breakfast, but it looked so good that we couldn’t resist. Raffaella made us feel right at home and was a fantastic host. I can’t wait to come back. Thank you for such a lovely experience, Raffaella.
