Camping Piano Grande

Good value, and an easy walk to the lake. A nice place to stay.

We paid €32 a night in high season for two people, a tent, and the car. Other campsites were asking €10-20 more, so that felt like a great deal. The owners were welcoming, and you can pitch your tent wherever you want.

I got my ID card back, but my partner’s was kept for the whole stay, with no explanation. At check-in around 2 PM, the manager said he needed to hold our documents and would return at 5. When we came back later, he was still on his phone and hadn’t finished. I went back an hour after that and was left dealing with his wife, who was unpleasant and said she couldn’t return my ID, without explaining why. They apparently hold the ID cards and passports of all the campers. I pointed out that we need to be able to prove who we are, especially abroad, but she didn’t seem to care. They aren’t the authorities and have no right to keep official documents. They insulted my partner, calling him “vaffenculo” when he asked for his card back. I worry about what could happen if there were a burglary, or what they might do with people’s papers. It’s strange that nobody seems to mention this in the comments, as if this treatment is just accepted. This was the worst experience I’ve had in ten years of travelling. The managers were dishonest and unprofessional, and the campsite was poorly maintained. Avoid it at all costs.

The mobile home was comfortable and clean, and the owners were kind and helpful. They even let us use the pool and showers after we’d checked out that morning. We spent the weekend at this simple campsite, which had what we needed, including a small, nice pool. Feriolo and Mergozzo are only a few minutes away by car. We’ll be back for sure.
