The garden dining area was such a cozy spot, with lemon trees, grape vines and flowers all around. We loved the mountain views too, and Belmonte Calabro’s historic center felt charming and unique. The walk from La Taverna down to Marina beach was a proper hike, but the trails through the hills were good. We booked six nights and kept adding more because we were having such a great time. Francesco, his wife and George made us feel so welcome. The food was amazing, from locally caught tuna and great pasta to crispy croissants each morning. We can’t wait to visit again.

We loved wandering around the old city and spotting all the little cats. The seafood and wine at Francesco’s restaurant were excellent, too. Our two nights at A Taverna were so quiet and relaxing, yet we still had good cell service throughout the old city. The room was spacious, with a balcony looking over the rooftops and the ocean below, and the bed was the comfiest we had on our trip. I was glad there was a hair dryer. Francesco was a lovely, accommodating host who shared local history and gave us helpful tips. My husband and I would definitely recommend a quiet break here.

Tucked away in the vichi, this place is a real find. The calamari was the best I’ve ever had, and the pasta and wine were delicious. The atmosphere is hard to beat. If you’re in Belmonte Calabro, stop in for a meal or a drink before you go.

We happened upon this place and are so glad we did. The town is beautiful and unspoiled, and the people are incredibly friendly. We had some of the best food and wine of our whole time in Calabria here.

A little magical, cozy place that’s a bit hard to reach but worth the trip. The food was great, prices were good, and the wines tasty. Staff were kind. Sadly, there’s no coffee. Would recommend.
