B&B Villa Landy

Breakfast was restocked each morning around 10:30, when the room was cleaned, and I found it clean every morning. A broom in each room might be useful for anyone who needs one. Breakfast can be taken in the room, with long-life milk cartons, toast, jams, Nutella, packaged snacks, and coffee pods for the machines downstairs. The partner bar was closed for vacation, as were the nearby bar and pizzeria, but there are other options around, including an excellent bar at the hospital entrance. For a B&B, the in-room breakfast may be enough. Pietro was a good, capable host and always available. My family and I stayed a week with our two young girls. We booked fairly late and found a place only because Pietro was accommodating, as my parents have relied on him for years. When we asked to add one more night during high season, he agreed, which was no small thing. The B&B is near San Pio Hospital, easy to get to from the ring road and not far from the center. Bus stops are within walking distance, and the area is quiet, with a supermarket nearby. Parking is along the road below the B&B; the street could use better lighting and some repairs. Our room for four had a double bed, two bunk beds, and an ensuite bathroom. There was also a hairdryer, towels, soap, a few shower gels, wardrobe and hangers, TV, safe, small fridge, and air conditioning, all working. The mattresses were comfortable and we slept well. We had a small terrace and a mosquito net that had a few issues, nothing major. Towels were replaced with clean ones when we asked after a few days. I still found it an excellent stay, recommend it, and would come back.

The one good thing was how helpful the owner was, but I would never recommend this place. Our room smelled strongly of cigarettes for all three days, and the odor got into our hair. The bathroom walls were moldy, the wooden toilet seat was chipped and impossible to sit on, and the room was filthy. The sheets were stained, and there were bits of broken plastic on the mattress cover. Breakfast was just low-quality packaged snacks.

The only letdown was breakfast, which we had hoped would offer a little more, though it didn't spoil the welcome or our stay. Three friends and I were there from the evening of May 1st until the next morning. The house was surprisingly large, with a spacious kitchen and a very clean, tidy bedroom. There were five beds, a double, a single, and a bunk bed, all in excellent shape. The bathroom was also in perfect condition and, above all, clean. The price felt reasonable and not over the top.

I got COVID and had to cancel a week ahead of my thesis defense, but the owners wished me a happy birthday and asked for nothing over the inconvenience. They were like dear old friends, and so caring. I had contacted them because the beautiful place is near my university, on the recommendation of many colleagues. They immediately helped find a room that would work for my visually impaired mother. Such humanity and concern for others feels rare these days. My family and I will visit soon to thank them in person and stay a night. Thank you so much for everything. Mara and family.
