Hotel Excelsior San Marco

Room 702 hasn't been updated, but the view of the upper town was spectacular. The bed was really comfortable, and everything felt warm and very clean. Breakfast at the restaurant was generous and tasty, with polite staff. The location is handy too, near the centre and the funicular, with the airport bus stop right across the street. I'd recommend this hotel.

The rooms at San Marco have what you need without extra frills. From the rooftop restaurant, the view is amazing, and it's a good place to spend an evening. Getting to Città Alta is easy on foot, or you can take the funicular or lift. The hotel also works well for a few nights in Bergamo, with the city centre within walking distance.

I got one of the newer rooms, and it looked really nice. The staff were attentive too. One issue was the lower showerhead, which barely had any water pressure. The upper one worked well, but washing my hair every time would have meant a long, annoying drying job, so I really wanted a decent shower from the lower head. Also, the renovated wing has tile floors instead of carpet. When someone moved a desk chair, the noise carried enough to wake people two floors away.

My room felt quite worn, and breakfast was pretty ordinary, so you might want to eat out. The hotel is well placed, though, and the staff were helpful. Conny at reception was especially kind and professional.
