Guest House Berzefi

Comfortable, clean, and excellent value. A great place to stay.

The sea isn't within walking distance unless you're willing to hike, and the information about the location and bathrooms was misleading. The bathrooms are private, but reached through a shared hallway. The rooms look clean at first, but there's a nauseating musty, damp smell throughout the property that feels very unsanitary. I'd have left as soon as I walked in. The windows are old and don't close all the way. Outside, the so-called balconies look like they haven't been maintained in years, with ants on the railings and cobwebs everywhere. Watch out for stray cats trying to get into the rooms.

The only nice thing was the view from the parking lot. There was nobody there to welcome us or explain the property at check-in, and the rooms were shabby and dirty: cobwebs, hair and dust everywhere, dirty bedspreads, holey sheets, broken blinds, and a dusty fan. The bathroom was outside the room, with mold on the wall and shower-door seal. We paid little, but cleanliness should be a given in any hotel or B&B, regardless of price. I don't think anyone rents a room expecting to be left with a broom. The garden was neglected too, and the tables had cats climbing on them. It smelled like cat pee from morning to night. Never again.

For our two-and-a-half-day mini tour of the Ligurian coast, Guest House Berzefi worked well as a base for Bergeggi and Torre del Mare. It's 1.5 km from Torre del Mare and 2.7 km from Bergeggi, both beautiful spots with crystal-clear water. The walk from the property takes 15-20 minutes. Varigotti and Baia dei Saraceni are also easy to reach, just 12 km away by car. The place is peaceful, surrounded by nature, with amazing views of the sea and mountains. We were there as a couple, but I'd recommend it to families, couples, or solo travellers looking for a relaxing nature break. The manager's car pass was really handy for driving around town and parking for free. We found a space easily, even in August. The rooms were comfortable and spacious, and so was the bathroom, which was outside the room but still private. We also appreciated the mini breakfast served in the room. Thanks to Mr. Giuseppe for being courteous and always ready to answer our questions. We'll definitely return to this beautiful, evocative area, which is fortunately close to our industrial regions in the north. Happy holidays!
