Albergo el Rancho

The nightly rate is exorbitant for a hotel that's old, has a mediocre breakfast, and sits far from the city center. I don’t think it’s worth the price at all.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the owner was super helpful. Good value for the money.

The view and comfort were excellent, and breakfast was good too. The breakfast staff were especially friendly and helpful. The room, though, felt dated and smelled so strongly of smoke that opening the windows didn’t get rid of it. We had to put up with that smell all night, and the walls were so thin we could hear people coming back to their rooms and other noises. It’s near the entrance to Bevagna, so getting into town is quick.

The room only had a ceiling mounted air conditioning unit for heat. It felt warm when we came in, but once we turned the fan off to cut the noise, the room got quite cold overnight, around 17°C. There was Wi-Fi, but on arrival we couldn't get it to work for more than a few seconds, despite trying for two hours. The next morning it worked for about 30 minutes, then stopped again. We also couldn't find the password at first. When we tried calling reception, the landline was out of order. A call from a mobile only reached the answering machine, and nobody called back. It left me wondering how guests could reach anyone in an emergency. At checkout we raised the problem, and they just confirmed the phone system was broken. They didn't apologize or ask whether everything else had been alright. The booking portal said the hotel had no restaurant, so we had chosen and reserved another one in the old town, 1.5 km away. But there is a restaurant there, as the name “Hotel Ristorante El Rancho” appears on the website and Google Maps.
