The room was cleaned regularly, which was the one positive part of my stay. Breakfast was extremely poor, and there was no bar, no coffee in the room, or way to get coffee before breakfast. Guests had to go elsewhere and pay for it. I wouldn't stay here again. The laundry service permanently damaged a pair of trousers. I handed them in wearable, with a very small, localised oil spot. They came back with a much larger, permanent discolouration and a clearly defined rectangular imprint. That pattern doesn't seem consistent with an untreated oil stain. No one offered to inspect them with me present, and I haven't received a technical assessment or documentation supporting the claim of “pre-existing stains”. Management refused to inspect the garment in person and told staff to direct me to claim the loss through my personal insurance. Since they declined to resolve it directly, I've escalated the matter through Booking.com and my card issuer and submitted full documentation.

The location is the only real plus at Hotel San Donato. The rooms are small, and the bathrooms even smaller. Staff weren't very knowledgeable or helpful, and the breakfast certainly doesn't live up to Bologna's reputation for good food. If the owners are Italian, they should do something about it!

The roof terrace has a nice view, and breakfast on the terrace was great. We also loved how quiet and very clean the rooms were. The hotel is close to all the attractions, and the staff were friendly and helpful. What more could you ask for? 😍

The rooms and service were great, and the hotel is right in Bologna's historic centre. I'd definitely return to San Donato if I visit Bologna again.

The building is beautiful and historic, and the location in Bologna is very good. Beyond that, there wasn't much to like. The rooms feel dated, the interior has little charm, and the parking is outrageously expensive. Given the quality of the stay, I can't really recommend it.
