My daughter got heat stroke, and we couldn't sleep in the apartment. Opening the windows helped a little, but then smoke came in from neighbours. It really isn't somewhere to stay when it's above 28 degrees. The owner said it was 8 degrees hotter than usual, though earlier reviews had already mentioned the heat and nothing seems to have changed. Booking.com shouldn't allow this place to be offered for summer stays, and judging by the reviews, winter may not be much better either. Getting there was awful too. We hauled four suitcases up 86 steps, past rat traps on every landing, then found the apartment even hotter than the stairwell, with no air conditioning. The shower had mould, the fridge was dirty, the kitchen was a mess, and a dirty tea towel was hanging there. The single room felt like an isolation cell. The only upside was doing laundry, which dried quickly because the apartment was like a sauna. The owners send instructions by WhatsApp and don't offer customer contact, which now makes sense to me. There were lots of children's facilities, but I wouldn't let children stay in this disgusting apartment. I've never written a bad review before, but this place left me no choice.

We changed hotels that same evening because the place was so filthy we couldn't sleep. It looked as though it hadn't been cleaned in months. I've travelled all over the world and never seen anything this disgusting. There are hostels cleaner than this. I'm shocked it's still being rented, and even more shocked by its 8.1 rating on Booking.com. After a six-hour trip, this was the worst place we could have arrived at. We'll do everything we can to get a refund. There was no hot water, and every part of the apartment was dirty, from the floors to the bathroom. There was dirt under the baby's crib, the pillowcases and sheets looked unwashed and unironed, and the towels were torn and stained, with rusty staples that could scratch you. The kitchen shelves had old food of unknown age. Getting up three flights with suitcases and a baby was hard enough, and there was no elevator. Each flight had a mousetrap. There was no air conditioning, the fans were covered in dust, and the heat risk was especially worrying with the baby.

The location is excellent and the price really fair, which earns it a second star. To reach a passing grade, though, they need to pay more attention to cleanliness and the small details. The apartment feels old, with dirt built up in the corners and various things left lying around. I found a beer and some abandoned ice packs in the freezer. The pillowcases hadn't even been ironed, and the room was a little damp. The second “bedroom” has a double bed but opens off the entrance to the shared areas, so there's not much privacy.

The owners were kind and helpful, and the location is hard to beat. A few steps from the apartment and you're right under the two towers. There are some extra stairs to climb, but the comfort and setting make you forget them. It's a typical Bolognese place, with terracotta floors and a lovely view over Bologna's red rooftops.

It's really hot in there, even with the fan. The welcome and cleanliness could both be better. I'm not saying they need to install air conditioning, but the heat is a lot.
