On Via Piella, the Torresotto di Porta Govese is a quiet, atmospheric spot where it's worth stopping for a look. The weathered stone arch and tower feel steeped in history, yet sit naturally among the everyday life of the street. It's one of the few surviving gate towers from Bologna's second circle of walls, and passing beneath it feels like stepping into another time. The famous “little window” over the canal is only a few steps away, making this a small but fascinating corner of the city's layered past.

Construction of the Porta Genovese treasury, also called the Voltone di Piella, began in the late 12th century. It's one of the 18 gates in Bologna's second circle of walls. Beside the treasury is a 17th-century Madonna and Saints by Francesco Brizio.
The little tower and gate on Via Piella are in excellent condition. They’re right by the small window overlooking the river.
I love these views of Bologna, and I’d include them on any sightseeing route. The tower is on Via Piella, in the central area near the university district. Its classic architecture and Bologna bricks still show off its old beauty and the scale of the original construction.
Go see it, it’s really beautiful and impressive.
