Peace and quiet are what you get in the old village of Mugnano in Teverina, in the municipality of Bomarzo, with a gallery looking out across the Tiber Valley to its far end. The property is a 15th-century venue for wedding receptions and other events, and also has three B&B rooms, all cared for down to the smallest detail. The owners are wonderfully hospitable and courteous. They make everything for breakfast by hand, with those old-fashioned flavors. I highly recommend a few days here.

The Papacqua fountain complex is beautiful, and Palazzo Orsini could have a lot of potential. At the moment, though, the palace needs extensive restoration. It stands at the entrance to Soriano's historic center, opens on weekends, and a combined ticket includes the castle.

Palazzo Orsini is worth visiting, but you'll need a car to get there. Nearby are lovely villages like Giove in Umbria and Bomarzo in Lazio, home to the legendary Monster Park, while splendid Viterbo is about a 30-minute drive away. It's also a great spot to rest and relax, with the staff looking after you.

The loggia by B. Peruzzi is stunning, with a lovely view across the Tiber Valley. Inside, the elegant halls and refined rooms feel warm and welcoming, making this historic residence a pleasant place to stay.
