The tower was closed to visitors when I went in 2016. Torre della Palata is the only surviving piece of the medieval city walls. It was built in 1254 to defend the Gate of San Giovanni and made it through the siege of 1311. A clock was added in 1461, followed by a fountain in 1597.

To see the city, walk from torre della Pallata up to the castle at the top of the city. That's the route I'd take to see everything in Brescia.

The fountain at the tower's base has statues of Pallas Athena and the Mella and Garza rivers, which both run through the city. The square stone tower stands 31 meters tall and was built in 1254 as part of the city walls. Over time it served as a municipal depot, a warehouse, and a prison. The clock you see now was designed in the 15th century.
