Hotel Astoria Cervinia

I didn’t stay at the hotel, just ate at the restaurant, but I have to thank the staff for making the best spaghetti aglio e olio I’ve ever had. They prepared it vegan just for me, which I really appreciated.

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Astoria, and we’re already planning to return for another ski holiday. The staff were lovely and very helpful, and both breakfast and dinner offered plenty of options. Our family of four stayed in a suite that was spotless and really comfortable, with a stunning view of the Matterhon. The balcony was a bonus, as was the outdoor spa with its sauna and hot tub. The hotel is near the town centre and a short way from the main lifts and cable cars to Plan Maison. We had a fantastic time and would recommend it.

The small rooms were clean, and housekeeping did a great job. The woman at reception was nice, and the younger barman was helpful, including arranging a sauna session that we enjoyed. The ice outside the hotel was treacherous in ski boots, though, and they should clear it. Dinner was shockingly bad, with no flavour, and even the French fries weren’t made properly. Breakfast was okay. One day an older staff member got angry when we brought a takeaway pizza from nearby and tried to eat it in the empty bar area. Our room had no dining table, so we had nowhere else to eat. That was completely unacceptable treatment. The younger barman had no problem with it, but the older man needs to think about how he behaves.

The hotel worked well as a base for hiking and skiing. The staff were friendly, rooms were clean and tidied every day, and the lifts are 100-200 metres away, so there’s no need to take a bus. The food was neither special nor bad. Breakfast could use more variety: I got the same things each morning, and with just one coffee machine, we had to queue for a long time every day.
