Hotel L'Approdo

I asked whether I could leave my backpack at reception for a few hours because my flight wasn’t until the evening. The receptionist abruptly said I could leave it in the hallway outside reception for two hours only, and that they wouldn’t be responsible for it. That says a lot about the hospitality here. The hotel is next to a busy road, with noisy cars and especially motorcycles going back and forth all night. The old windows don’t seal or close properly, so the traffic noise comes right through. The walls and doors are thin too, and you can hear people in the next room and in the corridor. I couldn’t imagine sleeping here without earplugs. Although they clean every day, the place is filthy. From the photos, it’s obvious how bad it is. They seem to just sweep, change the bin bag, and wipe visible surfaces, with no deep cleaning. The bathroom was extremely dirty, and there was mould in the shower. The air conditioning looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years, if ever, with black mould and dust inside. I was sneezing constantly. The hotel seems stuck in the 90s, with no proper upgrades or maintenance, and the rooms look unchanged since the 80s. This place feels like a bad joke. It shouldn’t have three stars, and should be downgraded so people don’t get caught out. It needs to close and be renovated. Please avoid it.

The sea view was nice, and the hotel is close to the station, city, airport, and everything else I needed. I stayed one night because of a flight, and it worked perfectly well for that. What matters most to me is cleanliness, and both the hotel and the room were clean. The bedding and bathroom were clean too, and the air conditioning worked. The furniture is as old as the hotel, but if you’re not fussy or looking for luxury and just need a place to sleep, it’s fine. The receptionist was cheerful, approachable, and a very good host.

The location is really good, just a short walk from anywhere, and the hotel was clean. For very reasonable money, you get a nostalgic old hotel, with a receptionist there all the time and furniture and fittings that must be about 30 years old. Hearing about the history of the place and what used to happen here was breathtaking.

We stayed here on 19/7/23 during a cycling holiday, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. The place has a chic, rustic feel, and both dinner and breakfast were amazing, fresh, home-cooked, and exquisite. The staff were so kind and helpful. Susan x
