The place itself is beautiful, with lovely rooms, and Mater is only a 30-minute bike ride from the beach. I wanted to enjoy it, since the idea seems great, but our stay left us feeling uncomfortable, unwelcome, and like a nuisance to the volunteers. We spent most of our time trying to get away and spend it elsewhere, and were told we were supposed to stay in the small courtyard behind the house. The experience didn't match what the website led us to expect, as Christina has also said in another review. This isn't a cheap B&B or a hostel, yet it felt like we were paying for the volunteers to have a good time. They were young and wanted to enjoy themselves, which is fine, but didn't seem to care about the guests' experience. Several times, their chanting in the main living area next to the rooms kept us up late. Breakfast was mostly cheap, mass-produced supermarket food: individually wrapped croissants, cheap yoghurt and juice, and little packets of butter and jam. I thought this was supposed to be an eco or permaculture B&B. We might get fruit from the garden if lucky, perhaps some homemade jam. We were asked to leave the swimming pool because the volunteers wanted to have lunch there. On another day, we had to move rooms because they'd messed up the bookings and another guest was arriving, which wasted our time. The bikes were all wrecks, and the kitchen was poorly equipped. There's no clear explanation of whether Mater is meant to let guests explore permaculture farming or provide a sustainable place for tourists. The effort to meet sustainable standards reflects that uncertainty. The garden and house are lovely, and I'm sorry it didn't work out, but I feel I need to warn others about our experience.

The relaxed but lively atmosphere is what I already miss after spending a few days here with a friend. It's a magical place, surrounded by nature and cared for down to all the beautiful little details. The people looking after it are wonderful, and we loved the sweet dog and cuddly cats in the outdoor area. Our room was perfect, with lots of outdoor space to sit in the shade and listen to the wind rustle. Breakfast was always generous and delicious. I also tried the homemade products made with local aloe vera, which worked wonders on my skin. I hope to come back soon. Tommasina, thank you so much for your warmth and kindness. For those wanting somewhere away from crowded tourist centers but still within easy reach of the area's attractions, Mater is a great fit. We spent about ten days there and loved the apartment, the garden, and the location. The pets were affectionate and well behaved, and didn't bother us at all. We enjoy their company, so it suited us perfectly. Tommasina was helpful and hospitable even before we arrived. She told us about their interesting project and shared useful holiday tips and contacts. She also provided bicycles, which came in handy. We especially enjoyed discovering the Torre Guaceto nature reserve, with its free beaches and opportunities for botanical observation. The place is in a rural area, and the surrounding roads have potholes. Previous reviews have mentioned that it's difficult to reach, but Tommasina sent detailed directions beforehand, and we had no trouble getting there by the easiest route. We highly recommend Mater and hope to return.

I came with my two dogs, and they had a whole week of freedom and comfort in complete safety. Mater felt like a peaceful little island where I could find myself again. Tommasina, Giovanna, and the kids welcomed me like family, and I felt right at home. They're unusually kind and lovely people. Opi was a perfect host too, welcoming the other animals. Thank you.
