Scià on Martin

We were in town for a wedding, so the hotel worked perfectly for us. The rooms are roomy, clean, and comfortable, and breakfast was one of the best I’ve had, with coffee made to order, juice, eggs and bacon, breads and pastries, plus gluten-free choices. There’s a grocery store right across the road. It’s a lovely little find, though there isn’t much else to do nearby. You’ll need a car, since taxis are difficult to get and very expensive when you can find one.

The location made this stay especially poor value. There wasn’t much nearby, and getting to anywhere nice took around 40 minutes to two hours. Taxis could have eaten up nearly all the money we brought. We paid almost £500 for three nights, and one of those nights we arrived around 12:45 or 1 a.m. after our flight landed at 11:45 p.m., though it was meant to arrive at 11:20. The taxi driver we’d paid £170 for two rides was late picking us up, so we got only about six hours’ sleep that night, but were still charged as if we’d stayed the full night. The first room’s thermostat didn’t work properly. They moved us to another room with proper air conditioning, which was a plus, and the front desk staff were sweet. But nobody had told us about charges such as drinking water. Italy was enjoyable, but this place was far too expensive for us, even if it may cost less than other hotels. Nearly £500 for three nights just wasn’t worth it.

I ended up here for a night last summer after my flight was diverted, and was impressed by how helpful and friendly the staff were. They went out of their way to assist, the rooms were very clean, and breakfast was good. Scia' On Martin is also close to Milan Malpensa Airport. I’d highly recommend it.

A comfortable hotel with a restaurant, about a 20-minute drive from Milan Malpensa. Worked well after a long-haul flight.
