Agriturismo Antichi Granai

The supposed agriturismo label doesn’t seem genuine to me. They don’t grow anything, and the recently renovated building looks like it may once have been a stable or factory. The countryside view is striking, though a wind turbine park interrupts it, with red warning lights blinking at night. Our room was large and clean, but it became very dry and hard to breathe in. We had to run the air conditioning at full blast for a couple of hours overnight to bring the temperature down to 21 or 22 degrees. WiFi was too weak to connect, and there was no TV. The food fell well below average. Breakfast was supermarket cakes and jams, cheap products that didn’t meet even the basic food standards I expected from an agriturismo. The espresso and cappuccino were good. Dinner was worse: I ordered pasta alla norma, a typical Sicilian dish, but got what seemed like American macaroni cheese with eggs and no eggplant. The other pasta and starters tasted like processed supermarket food, bought cheaply at the local Supermercado and reheated in a microwave before being sold for over 20 euros. I asked several times for an itemized bill for dinner and never got one. The same happened with the hotel invoice. The man claimed the printer was broken, offered to send it by Whatsapp, then got aggressive when I asked again. The desk staff didn’t speak any English. I had to repeat a simple sentence three times to explain basic needs, and then he deliberately made microaggressive remarks to get rid of me. The property is far from other worthwhile small and medium-sized towns, so I’d avoid it. At 90 euros a night, it’s completely overpriced. Farm food and Sicilian hospitality felt a long way off.
