B&B Girosa

We paid € 65 for our one-night stay, August 8th to 9th, and I think that’s a decent general price, though it didn’t reflect what we actually got. I won’t comment on the Booking price of € 51, since I can only assume it went down because no other guests had checked in. The Booking reservation was canceled by the property and we had to pay cash because the POS wasn’t working. We didn’t get a receipt, though maybe they simply forgot, and it was my mistake not to ask. I imagine that means I can’t leave a review there. The location is good, no more than a ten-minute walk to the center, and I found a place to park nearby. The host acted right away and cleaned the A/C, but it didn’t help much. It needs a professional cleaning, since a sponge and mop water can only do so much. The room was meant for people with disabilities, and I didn’t mind that or the dated furniture. What mattered to me was clean sheets and towels, a spotless bathroom and room, plus a comfortable mattress and pillows. None of that was there. The cheap sheets were frayed at the edges and covered in spots, dust was everywhere from the A/C to under the bed, and the mattress was dirty. The brown towels were a clever choice, since it was the first time in my life I hadn’t been given white ones and the color could hide the spots. There was a constant mold smell, masked at first by room perfume. I doubt the windows opening onto an interior hall or area helped. The internet didn’t work. We didn’t care much about the morning snack, a toast, croissant, and coffee, because we don’t eat much in the morning. I saw the other comments and tried to be completely fair. We only stayed one evening, and thank God for that. Running a business is hard, so feedback should be a chance to improve and prove people wrong.

The next morning, we turned out to be the only guests at the B&B, in June 2016, and the breakfast was very modest, with expired jams. At check-in the host wasn’t very welcoming and tried to tell us breakfast wasn’t included. He should have checked the booking himself, but I had to download the confirmation to show that we had paid for breakfast.

The owner was very kind, and our room was spacious and clean, which made this an excellent place to stay overnight in beautiful Caltagirone. Compliments to the staff, and see you soon.

We never got to stay. We had booked a room and arrived at 21:10, even though check-in was open until midnight, but the door was shut. We rang the bell and got no answer. We contacted the accommodation through Booking customer support and heard nothing. The two phone numbers on the door also went unanswered. After a few failed calls, the number suddenly became unavailable. It was clear someone had switched the phone off while we were calling. Eventually a woman opened the door, but said she was a guest and the place was already closed because the employees had left. After waiting half an hour, we gave up and luckily found somewhere nearby. The next day we got a notification saying the accommodation had marked us as a no-show, which was a blatant lie. A horrible experience. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone!
