I’m giving this one star because of what I consider unacceptable behavior in 2026, not because the food is bad or the location isn’t lovely. The food was good, and the setting is splendid. At bill time I was told they wouldn’t take a card, only cash. There was no notice on the menu or at the entrance, and nobody mentioned it when we ordered. I said I’d need to check whether I had enough cash, and they offered an instant bank transfer instead. To me, that shows there was an internet connection, so the POS refusal seemed to be a management choice rather than a technical problem. This left me wondering what I’d have done if I didn’t have enough cash. Finding an ATM in a remote area can be difficult, and putting a customer in that awkward position is unfair. I’m a VAT-registered taxpayer and know what paying taxes and fees involves. The POS requirement has been in place for years to support tax fairness. Seeing the same thing happen over time, as other reviews confirm, makes it look like a repeated effort to get around the rules at the expense of people who pay taxes every day. The law applies to everyone, even up in the mountains. I hope management starts following the current rules out of respect for customers and the community.

We only stopped at Roanerhof for lunch. The South Tyrolean food was top notch, with different kinds of dumplings and soups. The view is phenomenal!
