If we return to Canicatti, Areacafe is absolutely somewhere we’d book again. The location is superb, the building is modern and spotless, and meeting the friendly staff each morning was a joy. Thanks to the whole team for making such a lovely sanctuary for guests. There’s a petrol garage downstairs with very reasonable prices, and the ‘areacafe’ overlooks it. The cafe is also immaculately kept and seems to have almost everything you might need. It serves breakfast in the morning, then becomes a full-service bar and shop in the afternoon, with pizza and Sicilian snacks among the food. The accommodation is a newly built block with 8 self-contained studio apartments. Each has a kitchen, washing machine, TV, huge double bed, dining table, WiFi, and air conditioning. There’s a small lift from the ground floor. It was immaculate throughout, thanks to staff who work hard to keep it that way while staying friendly and hospitable. We found Canicatti a fascinating mix of old and new. The medieval part winds over hilly cobbled streets and around churches, while the modern side has supermarkets like Lidl and EuroStar. It has pretty much everything you could need. The center is about 10 minutes away by car, with fresh fruit stalls, orange and lemon trees dotted around, hot bread shops, and beautiful pastry and cake shops on nearly every other street. We even found a shop that sells only spring water. A lovely Nonna named Nina runs it like a bar, where you bring an empty bottle and fill it from whichever tap you choose. A very different way of life! For a trip to the UNESCO World Heritage site Valley of the Temples, Agrigento is about 25 minutes away by car. Turn right as you leave the complex to go there, or left for Canicatti. A word of advice if you haven’t driven in Sicily before: be prepared. We found the driving aggressive throughout Sicily. In Canicatti there are hardly any road markings, people park wherever they like and go through roundabouts whichever way they choose. Drivers seem to love beeping at each other for the fun of it, and almost every car has dents or other damage. You need to stay very alert. Even the stray dogs use pedestrian crossings to stay safe, I kid you not! I believe we were their first English guests, and the staff went out of their way to make our stay great. Breakfasts were beautifully cooked, and they even apologized when it rained. We’re English, we’re used to it, lol.

The room was immaculate, and everything was in its place. The furnishings were modern and tasteful, and the bathroom was spotless with everything needed. I was impressed by the care taken with all the details. I had an excellent stay, and the cleanliness and furnishings were impeccable. If I return to Canicattì, I’ll definitely stay at Areacaè-Affittacamere again. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a clean, welcoming place.

You can rest well here without being disturbed, day or night. This guesthouse has 8 spotless, well-furnished studio apartments, each with a kitchen, air conditioning, and washing machine. It’s convenient for reaching the city center in just a few minutes. There’s a bar too, and the place is next to a gas station.
