Axolute Comfort Hotel

Handy hotel for a stop near the border, about a 15-minute drive from Comp city. The restaurant was very clean. The rooms work for two, but feel too small for two adults and two kids.

The place was quiet, which I really enjoyed. My room didn't have much of a view, unfortunately, but it was spacious, with a comfortable bed and a very nice bathroom.

The staff were friendly and did their best, and breakfast was decent, with fruit, yoghurt, cereal, pancakes, croissants, bread, eggs and bacon. The restaurant was temporarily closed, though there are plenty of places to eat nearby, including one the hotel apparently partners with. We stayed during a trip farther south, and it worked fine as a stop, especially since the price wasn't too high. Still, this feels like a very average hotel, not really worthy of four stars. The building and rooms have aged badly and need renovation. Our room was clean and everything worked, but the lack of upkeep was obvious. The mattress was very stiff and didn't support me well. Keep your expectations modest and you'll probably be fine.

The lobby and restaurant are nicely kept, but the floors near the rooms are dark and dingy. Maybe the lighting hides the stained, torn carpet and badly battered walls. The room itself was just okay, and dirty. The mattress felt like the cheapest kind you could find in the US, with the springs pressing into you. It might be fine to stop for a drink or meal, but I wouldn't stay the night.
