Camping Marelago

The mobile home suited us really well, and I’d recommend staying here. We spent about a week there in early July. The campsite is clean, with a coffee machine, dishes, and shared washing machines. It’s close to the sea, and the beach is kept ready. The water stays shallow up to the safety boundary, which works well for kids; adults need to go beyond it to swim.

I didn’t like the feeling of being locked in or out, which is why I’m taking off two stars. The site is otherwise in a great spot, a minute from the beach and about a ten-minute walk from a large grocery store. The staff are friendly as long as you respect quiet hours, 23:00-7:00 and 13:00-15:00. It wasn’t especially noisy even with cars allowed in, and you can hear music in the evening, but it’s quiet by midnight. The facilities are good. There are insects, as you’d expect in the south, so bring mosquito spray.

I can only speak about the mobile homes and the surrounding area, not the pitches or their services. We booked and partly paid for a mobile home ahead of time, but on arrival we waited over an hour to check in. We paid the balance without being told about the services or the beach, and still had no keys. Once we finally saw the Coral unit, it looked quite old and basic. The market is tiny and expensive. The bar wasn’t great either: the pizza was okay, but card payment was difficult and cash seemed preferred. There were very few ice cream choices, even though we were there in August. I also noticed that the pool steps didn’t have the usual safety features, so the pool didn’t seem secure for everyone.

They accepted the reservation, then turned us away when we arrived. The reception staff were very rude. I’d give less than one star if that were possible. Try San Francesco a few kilometers away instead. Stay away from Marelago.
