Villa Coccinelle in Pieve di Compito

I stayed at Villa Coccinelle years ago and still know the place well. It’s tucked into the greenery of the Compitese area, a peaceful and comfortable spot. Stefano is friendly and helpful when you need something, while giving guests their privacy and never intruding.

The owner is attentive and easy to reach, which made our stay even nicer. The house is spotless, carefully maintained and welcoming from the moment you arrive. Set among greenery, it’s peaceful and quiet, a good place to get away from the bustle and enjoy fresh air and nature. It also feels like home while keeping hygiene standards very high. Highly recommended.

We booked Villa Coccinelle through Lucca Apartments & Villas for May 2025, but what we found was a long way from the photos. The owner admitted the pictures were outdated, and they showed the polished version from years earlier, with nothing having changed since then. The villa was dusty, dirty and damp, and the bedding was worn out, nothing like the advertised comfort. After a night that felt like a nightmare, we developed respiratory symptoms from the dust and had to leave urgently, paying for different accommodation ourselves. Lucca Apartments & Villas offered only a basic cleaning the next day, which was nowhere near enough after our trust had been broken. Since then, there’s been no reply, refund or goodwill gesture. I’d avoid both Villa Coccinelle and Lucca Apartments & Villas. This felt like a scam, with contempt for customers and no transparency.

We felt very comfortable in this charming, quiet holiday home. The garden is inviting and well cared for, and the pool was a real treat in warm weather. The kitchen had what we needed for self-catering, including a dishwasher, coffee maker, washing machine and iron. Air conditioning upstairs kept things comfortable on hot days. The decor has an authentic feel, with attention to detail, though the furnishings are somewhat dated. The listing photos are generally accurate, but quite brightly lit. The owner lives next door and was friendly, helpful and easy to reach. There was a slightly strong smell when we first came in, but it cleared quickly once we aired out the house. The upstairs bathroom could use a proper shower screen and a grab bar or handrail to make getting in and out safer. There’s no supermarket or bakery within walking distance, and safe paths for pedestrians are lacking, so plan for that. There are lots of mosquitoes around too. Lemon scented candles or repellent are said to work well. A car is recommended for shopping and outings. A lovely place for people who want peace and don’t mind being self-sufficient.
