The hosts at this lovely bed and breakfast really care and help with anything you need, from taxis to restaurant reservations. That took a lot of the stress out of our arrival. Our room was clean and the bed comfortable. The shower was a bit tight, but workable. We regretted not buying the breakfast package, since breakfast was quite good and included fruit from their garden. We ended up having it almost every day and just charged it to the bill at the end. One thing about getting around: the hotel is right on the #3 bus route. It's a smaller half-bus, and the ride felt rough because it takes the turns so quickly. We often walked 5-10 minutes up or down the hill to the Cassamicciola port instead, where we could catch one of the more major bus lines.

The warmth of the family run Hotel Matarese is what makes it special. As soon as you arrive, hostess Marianna makes you feel welcome, with so much care and attention you'd think you were the only guest there. It's an intimate place, with lovely terraces overlooking the sea. At night, you can lie back on a lounger and count the stars. It's only a short walk from the centre of Casamicciola Terme and not far from the ferry port. There are plenty of nearby places to eat, but I'd make sure to have dinner at the hotel at least once. Marianna's sister cooks excellent food, and the wine made by Marianna's father is excellent too. I found this hotel after an unfortunate incident and thanks to a very kind cab driver called Savario. I'm afraid my review still won't do justice to how good this place is. Hotel Matarese is definitely one of Ischia's hidden gems, and it's now my favourite hotel in the world 😊

The garden was stunning, and Marianna’s father showed us around it. During our five nights, Marianna made us feel looked after like family. We came down with heatstroke after hiking and were sick for two days; she offered medicine and even offered to order food from a local takeaway. Our room was spotless, too. Getting around was easy. The hotel is a 5-10 minute walk from the ferry in Casamicciola, and Marianna kindly picked us up when we arrived and dropped us off when we left. You can also take a bus or taxi. It’s a great base for exploring Ischia.

The hotel’s quiet atmosphere and classic style made for a peaceful stay, and Marianna was a lovely, welcoming host. From the balconies you look out over the garden, and at night you can see the stars and the sea. When booking your ferry to Ischia, choose Casamicciola rather than the main port. It’s only about a 10-minute walk to the hotel.

The hotel sits in a lovely garden with sun loungers, and we had a great time at Matarese hotel in Casamicciola. Mariana was a huge help, arranging rides to and from the harbor and letting us use our room to change after checkout. Breakfast was okay. I’d happily recommend it.
