Tenuta Gentile Resort & Spa

The room had a bad, moldy smell coming from the bathroom, and the AC didn’t work at all. We brought it up several times, but the receptionist said it would “take time to cool the room down,” which clearly wasn’t what was happening. It seemed like they already knew the AC wasn’t working. At checkout, the receptionist didn’t seem interested in our concerns and switched from English to Italian, acting as if they didn’t understand. We only stayed one night because the location was convenient, but I wouldn’t come back. I expected more from a hotel claiming to be 4 stars. Very disappointing.

The evening meals at the restaurant were great, though breakfast was a bit limited. The rooms and pool area were good, and the hotel was good value for money.

The daytime staff were great, and breakfast was good. The room was still nice, though it looked nothing like the pictures on Booking. At night, communication was really difficult because the receptionist didn’t speak English or Spanish. He said he’d keep our passports overnight, apparently because he didn’t know how to use the copier. We argued about it until he called someone and agreed to just take a picture, as we’d suggested. Not the best start. Booking also said there was 24/7 room service, but there wasn’t.

The restaurant staff were lovely, and the food was quite good. The pool was okay, but it needs a lot of maintenance: wooden planks were sticking out, and an area was completely inaccessible behind red tape. The room was disappointing, with hair on the floor and walls, an AC that barely worked, and no window for air to circulate. The worst part was coming back from a day out to find our door wide open. Staff didn’t seem very concerned, and nobody apologized. Our belongings could have been stolen. The place has a lot of potential, so it’s a shame we expected much better.
