Hotel Castelsardo Domus Beach

The hotel could use some updating, and refurbishments are underway. Still, the room was very clean and a good size, and the beach is only a few steps away. Castelsardo is a few minutes away, with shops and restaurants nearby. Good value for money.

We chose full board and really enjoyed the Italian food. The hotel is close to the beach, though getting to the sandy part means being fit enough for the steps and then crossing big stones. There’s no pool, so it may be less suitable for families with small children. After seven days, I don’t think we’d return since we like visiting different places, but I’d recommend it as a budget hotel for couples or families. Our room was small, with twin beds, and the toilet and shower were cramped, definitely not ideal for larger people. The air conditioning worked very well. Towels and toiletries were replaced every day, and the room was cleaned daily too. Many thanks to the cleaners, especially Rita, for doing a good job. We rented a car, with parking to pay for, and used it to explore northern Sardinia. Castelsardo is also reachable by bus from a nearby stop. Thanks to Cathy at reception, we enjoyed an excursion to La Maddalena. Special thanks as well to Umberto, the restaurant chef, and to the very nice, polite, attentive waiters Roberto, Gavino and Vincento. We got what we paid for, a three-star hotel.

The reception staff are nice, but that’s about it. Don’t forget to put the paper outside your door for the cleaner, or she’ll bang on the door, open it, and scream at you in Italian. There’s no fridge in the room, and you’re not allowed to store food or drinks in the hotel fridge. They don’t provide water, so you have to buy everything. The bed is two twin beds pushed together and very uncomfortable. The room feels like a jail cell, the shower is extremely small, and the toilet sits on a step. We changed rooms, but they all seem to be the same. I’ll never come back. Every other hotel I stayed at in Sardegna was much better.

The private beach was amazing and not too crowded. You can rent sunbeds and parasols at reasonable prices, and there’s always a lifeguard ready to help. Everyone on the hotel staff was friendly and extremely helpful, really going the extra mile to make us comfortable. We’d definitely stay again, 10/10. We were there for a week. The room was basic but nice, with air con, and well worth what we paid. Breakfast had a nice range of coffees, juice, cakes, croissants, and more.
