The setting and property are absolutely breathtaking, and that’s what made the stay worthwhile for us. The house has two floors, but each booking gets one floor, so two families can stay there at once. I’d misunderstood the listing and thought we’d have the whole property. The host can be very helpful, especially with planning an itinerary and pointing out local specialties. But communication was uneven: at times she was rude or inflexible, and rules weren’t made clear, then she complained when we hadn’t followed them. That really soured the mood. I’d suggest agreeing on the house rules clearly at the start. There’s no washing machine or dishwasher, so everything has to be done by hand. The property also isn’t cleaned during your stay, which matters if you’re planning to be there for a while. Those service issues brought down our score, even though the beautiful location was a real highlight.

Bring some food for the evenings, especially in winter, when many nearby restaurants are closed and you may not want to drive out for dinner. You’ll need a car to get up here. We only stayed one night and wished we’d booked longer. The place is charming and clean, the amenities all worked properly, and the owner was friendly and easy to communicate with.

The views are stunning, and the house has everything you need. Flavia was lovely and diligent, and shared lots of useful tips for the area. We had a wonderful time at Poggio Bicchieri and would stay there again if we return to Italy.

Poggio Bicchieri is a farmhouse in Campiglia d’Orcia, and Flavia was a fantastic host. The house is really nice, with a fully equipped kitchen and comfortable places to relax and sleep. Get up early if you can, the sunrise from the window is lovely.
