Villaggio Albergo Le Macerine

We were surprised by how spacious the rooms were. The pool was spotless and lovely to swim in, refreshing without being cold. The people running the place gave amazing service, doing more than you'd expect and clearly suited to the job.

We spent a week here in July and had a really nice time. Getting to the Old Town takes a bit of figuring out, but the walk isn't too hard or very long once you know the way. Our room was clean and practical, and the pool was pleasant and well kept. Breakfast was good too, and the staff were very helpful, though not many spoke English. I'd recommend the Hotel and would stay again if I came back.

Castiglione del Lago is such a picturesque village, and staying here made the visit even better. The chalets looked great and were clean, parking was right out front, and there was a nice pool for a swim. The staff were very friendly and breakfast was good. A lovely place for a couple of days.

Stefano and the team made the whole stay feel easy. Stefano was helpful from booking right through to departure, and drove me to the station for free when I left on Sunday and no taxis were running. He speaks excellent English, and the team really went out of their way to make sure I enjoyed my visit. If you're looking for the best rates, book direct. The location worked well for getting around, between the station and the main town. Taxis are available at the station before 6pm, or it's an easy 20 minute walk. Castiglione del Lago is a small, beautiful town with lakeside spots and boat rentals. You can also take ferries to nearby Isola Maggiore, where there's a church, history and tourist shops. Trains make Cortona a quick, inexpensive trip, and the location is handy for other hill towns like Orvieto too. The pool was clean, spacious and lovely. I had a large ground floor room with an outdoor seating area, which was great. Breakfast was wonderful: cold meats, cheeses, yoghurt, pastries and coffee. I especially liked the cappuccinos, and could get a free refill. I'd love to be lucky enough to return one day. 110%, above and beyond, I can't recommend this place highly enough.
