The neighborhood streets nearby had a lot of grime and rubbish, and there was shouting and screaming through the night, which we attributed to crime activity. The place itself was clean and check-in was easy: a code box gave us flexibility. Our room was spacious and had what we needed, including water and coffee. The location has its advantages too, with the church and other monuments close by.

The location was convenient, but the room had several problems. The walls were peeling, and there was no blackout curtain to keep outside light out. Street noise came through, the bathroom smelled stale even with the fan running all day, and the hot water didn't last through a full shower.

Casa Barbara was a warm, pleasant place, and our room was roomy, with a double bed, sofa, and TV. It had been recently renovated and was well equipped, including air conditioning, an induction stove, a large clean bathroom, towels, and toiletries. The owner was responsive from the start and always friendly. The property is just steps from the center and close to the main streets. We had a comfortable stay and would recommend it.

At night, sounds from the surrounding streets are noticeable, as other guests have mentioned. Otherwise, it was very clean and well located in Catania. There are two supermarkets and bakeries nearby, and both the center and bus terminals are within walking distance.

The host was kind, and arranging things over WhatsApp was quick and straightforward. The property was very clean and less than a 10-minute walk from the Cathedral of Sant'Agata. It has an iron gate and a door that opens straight onto the street, rather than being inside a building, and outside noise comes through clearly, especially via the bathroom door. The walking location is convenient, but I can't ignore what happened with my car: all its headlights were stolen while it was parked on nearby Via Garibaldi. Locals told us thefts like this often happen to tourists, and the Carabinieri confirmed that when we filed a complaint. I don't find Catania safe. The incident made me leave a day earlier than planned. I recommend the property, but take extreme care with your car, parking, and personal safety.
