Catania house Apartment

The location is good, it's quiet, the neighbors were quiet too, and the owner was good. You can walk to everything, including a supermarket, fish shop, enoteca and bus station. But the price isn't affordable for what you get, and the apartment needs work. It was dusty enough to trigger an allergic reaction, there's no vacuum cleaner, and even for a long stay they don't offer cleaning. The wallpaper needs replacing, it smells very old, and in Sicily's summer heat, only two of the four fans worked. That wasn't enough to sleep comfortably. Some lights kept blinking, and the bathrooms didn't have enough light. The kitchen was full of old things. Only one saucepan was usable; the pan was black and made the food taste of aluminum. Just two of the four gas burners worked, and many of the mismatched plates and cups were broken. In the bedroom, the double bed had two mattresses that left a hole between them by morning. The wardrobe had only a few hangers and smelled awful. One shower bathroom was tiny and smelled of mold, and its toilet and tap didn't work properly. The other bathroom's tap and sink also didn't work right. The shower pressure was weak, and the taps were hard to use because of their handles.

Just an average place, especially for that high a price.

The owner arrived half an hour late, so things got off to a bad start. The house was supposed to have air conditioning according to booking.com, but there was none. When I asked, he said there were fans, despite it being 40 degrees. He charged me an €8 tourist tax right after showing me around. There were mosquitoes everywhere, and the ground-floor place smelled strongly of cat pee. The next day I tried to report what happened on booking, but the owner said I hadn't shown up, which meant I couldn't review it there. It was a horrible stay, and the house felt like a horror movie. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Don't book this property.
