Duomo Suites & Spa

We were a group of 10, and breakfast and housekeeping staff were amazing. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend this hotel. It felt like a glorified hostel at luxury prices. We travel a lot and don't need everything perfect, but there were too many problems. Nearby places offer central locations without the market smell and late-night noise, and might have staff who work with guests to solve issues instead of making them doubt their own experience. We booked a group of rooms that included two luxury suites, each with two rooms or beds and two bathrooms for three adults. Instead, we got one luxury suite and what they called an “upgrade” to an apartment advertised for two people. It had one bedroom, a living room with two couches, and two bathrooms. The front desk said it was an upgrade because it cost more, which was hard to follow. They also didn't tell us at the time that the third person, who slept on a couch, would raise the nightly price by 30%. We repeatedly told the desk we were unhappy, but were never offered a discount or the room we had booked. The location is great if you stay up late. The rooms are advertised as soundproof, but street noise came through very clearly. The building and rooms need repairs: most bathrooms had peeling paint and mold in the showers. When we showed photos, staff denied there was a problem. Plenty of other things needed attention too. The front desk didn't seem interested in whether we were having a good or bad stay, and often argued that our feedback was wrong. We were told twice that laundry handed in by a certain time would come back the same day, but it wasn't returned until the next day.

The tourism location is ideal, and the room was comfortable and spacious. There were a few small things in the kitchen and along the shower floor edge that could use repair. They don't affect how anything works, but they leave a poor impression. The real highlight is the staff. Everyone was warm, friendly, and helpful, from the cleaners and breakfast attendant to the receptionists. Five stars for all of them.

The staff were lovely, everything was explained clearly, and the masseuse was very good at her job. That part of the visit is something I'd recommend. We booked the Duomo Suites & SPA package for two, with wet-area access and a 45-minute massage for 170 EUR. The Turkish bath, sauna, and jacuzzi were clean and modern, though a few things were broken, like the clothes hooks, and some walls needed fresh paint to feel more upscale. The space was very small, and the heat and humidity became a bit much after a while. We waited 1h30 for the masseuse, and had to take turns because there was only one. In total we each spent almost 2h30 in the wet area, which was too long for us. The hotel is in a very touristy part of town, so there was a lot of noise.

The staff really made our stay, especially Vanessa, who was great. I can’t remember the other woman’s name, but she was just as friendly and professional. The room was good, too, and I’d recommend the place for that and the service. The location is exactly as advertised, just a block from the piazza with the duomo, with cafés, restaurants, a pharmacy and small grocery shops nearby. It’s very central, and that’s what you’re paying for. There are quite a few stairs, though the small elevator helps. The layout is unusual, and getting to the parking lot can be tricky with all the one-way streets, so follow the directions they give you.
