The rooms are really lovely, but that’s about it. For the pool, they make you buy a hair cover for 1 euro. Come on, is that really necessary? Couldn’t it just be included in the price? The beach is nice, but getting there means climbing a LOT of stairs, so it isn’t accessible for elderly people. The staff’s recommendations weren’t great either. They seemed to care about sending you to certain places and naming them.

We first planned to spend just one night at Emerald hotel, then changed our plans and stayed much longer. Ermal and the hotel staff were kind and helpful. We left our car at the hotel and used the local uber service to get to Cefalù, avoiding traffic and parking. The sea view was unbelievable. We’ll always remember your tarace. Thank you, Ermal and everyone on staff.

We had a wonderful time in Cefalu. The hotel is clean and modern, with views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the sunsets. The staff were friendly and very helpful, and the location was excellent, a short walk from a charming little village with restaurants and cafes, and a short drive from Cefalu Beach.

We spent five nights at this so-called “4-star boutique hotel” in Sicily. Everything seemed fine until the last night, which turned into a nightmare and made the place feel unsafe and unprofessional. A little after midnight, our key stopped working. The outside gates opened, but we couldn’t get into our room. Reception was shut, and there was no emergency contact information anywhere on site. From 12:20 AM until almost 3:00 AM, we were left outside, calling the hotel’s contact number dozens of times. We have screenshots, and nobody answered. Our friends tried to help too. They called every number on the hotel website, the supposed “head office,” and any other number they could find in online reviews, travel forums, and Reddit. No one picked up any of those calls either. When a staff member finally showed up, he didn’t apologize. He said, “I’m not the owner, I’m not the manager.” My boyfriend asked to speak directly with the owner or manager, but the staff member flat-out refused to give us contact information for either one. That left us with no way to escalate the situation. The next morning, the receptionist tried to blame us for being locked out, saying it happened because we had left a card in the power slot for the AC. We’d done that all week without a problem. Instead of taking responsibility, the staff pointed fingers at paying guests. We were exhausted, but calmly explained what had happened and asked whether anything could be done. It was painful to watch the receptionist hesitate, as though even a small gesture was too much. Eventually she grudgingly waived the charge for two cocktails we’d had earlier in the week. After hours locked out in the middle of the night, that felt insulting. There was no visible emergency procedure or contact information for when reception was closed. Our repeated calls, and our friends’ calls to every number they could find, went unanswered. Staff refused to provide the owner’s or manager’s details, blamed us, then made very little effort to put things right. None of it showed genuine care or professionalism. We stayed calm through the whole thing, even though we nearly had to sleep in our car. The staff’s indifference and attitude made an already stressful situation unbearable. A hotel that can’t ensure guests can get to their rooms and then shifts the blame doesn’t deserve 4 stars or our trust. If safety, professionalism, or basic respect matter to you, avoid this place. What happened to us was unacceptable.

The Emerald offers a rare sense of peace right by the sea, about 5 mi from Cefalu, which is much too busy. You can drive into Cefalu for the day, but I highly recommend the calm atmosphere, friendly people, and cleanliness here.
