The guiding and tasting were really nice! This is from nine Norwegians, all around 60.

A fascinating little winery run by the family themselves, and everything is organic. They showed me around the winemaking and bottling areas, and I was impressed by both the quality and the history they shared. The wines include Grignolino, Monferrato, Barbera, Chardonnay and Spumante. The flower-covered courtyard is lovely, and the underground fermentation, bottling and storage spaces were impressive. Many of the walls are carved from calceranite, the soft limestone found in this region. There’s also a bed and breakfast connected to the winery, where I’d love to stay. The family were so kind during the tour. Call ahead, since I’m not sure when tours are available, but if you’re nearby, don’t miss it.

For lunch in Cella Monte, try agnolotti with their wines. The guided cellar tour is a must, too. There’s a lovely sense of familiarity, and the owners share their passion for what they do. We’ve tried several wineries in Cella Monte, and this is undoubtedly the best for the quality and refinement of the wines. They’re independent winemakers with exceptional organic labels, especially the Grignolino and Poggeto, which received 3 glasses from Gambero Rosso, along with Freisa, Sauvignon and some very interesting Metodo Classico wines.
