Gadames Hotel - Lunch on the Beach

The staff were kind and always available, and the food was very good. Breakfast had plenty of tasty variety. My husband and I stayed for May 1st; things were simple and peaceful. Our room was small but clean, with a balcony. I recommend it.

The owners were friendly, and the rooms were clean. The children’s room had no air conditioning, which was the only flaw. The food could be better, but we had a positive stay overall and will return.

This family-run hotel is comfortable and unpretentious, and very close to the beach. There’s plenty of good food and variety, with gluten-free meals guaranteed. Breakfast was less satisfying, since everything was pre-packaged.

The cuisine was excellent, and the waiters were friendly and cheerful. The dining room was quite hot, though, and many people were fanning themselves. The rest of my stay was dominated by the air conditioning problem, and I won’t return to Gadames. If you charge for a service, it should work. I arrived on August 11th around 7:30, left my luggage in the lobby because the room wasn’t ready, and got directions from the owner at reception to the fenced parking lot 500 meters away. After parking, we returned and went to affiliated beach resort 216 to find our umbrella. The room was ready around 11:30. It was very hot, so I switched on the air conditioning, but it barely blew at speed 3 and didn’t cool the room. The next day I reported the problem downstairs. The unit seemed like an old pseudo-air conditioner from the 1980s. Mrs. Marcella said some units didn’t work because they were old and tired. I asked why no one had told me before assigning the room, since they should check that things work when preparing it. I’d paid for air conditioning, and that was the least it should do. She suggested leaving the French window open, said it wasn’t too hot that night, and wanted to give me a fan. I saw her give fans to some older guests too. I slept terribly, with people making noise at 3 in the morning, barking dogs, and drunk kids kicking cans and laughing. In the morning I complained again that the air wasn’t working and I’d slept badly. I was irritated and answered a bit rudely, but I felt that was understandable. I wanted them to send a technician, but I had to tell her to do it. She said a condenser had been changed, yet the air was still as bad as before.
