Hotel Delfino

I was very happy with my room: it was spacious and comfortably furnished, with a fridge and a safe. The bathroom was large too, with a shower, a window, and a small balcony facing the sea. Breakfast was another bright spot, with tasty cakes and pastries, fruit, yogurt, and some savory choices. Getting over to Cervia is easy. The hotel is closer to Cervia than Milano Marittima, and the ferry across the canal is a five-minute walk and costs under a euro. The hotel is right by the sea and has a well-run partner beach club, the "Oreste." The staff were friendly and helpful, and the lobby has a vending machine and three elevators. The outdoor space really needs attention. The flowerbeds looked neglected, some broken vases held dead plants, and rubbish and weeds covered the sidewalk. It gave the place a shut-up feeling, which is a shame. The entrance is also reached by a long, steep staircase, an absurd setup for guests carrying suitcases. The building looks dated from the outside. The pool's hot tub has apparently been out of order for a long time, which reflects badly on the hotel. With better care outside and a working hot tub, I would have rated it higher.

The breakfast was hard to defend: there were only a few decent items, much of it seemed low quality, and you had to drink the coffee from a water glass or a latte mug because there weren't even small cups. Then people wonder why guests go abroad for holidays. The rooms have been redone, including the floors, walls, and bathroom fixtures, but old fittings like the rusty taps and a shower from the 1970s were left behind. At those prices, I'd spend €40 more and choose one of the nearby 5-star hotels.

The beachfront location wasn't bad, but the room was dusty throughout, in both the bathroom and bedroom. There are no lunch or dinner options at the hotel, so you have to find meals elsewhere. The staff were rude, and charging €20 a day for the hotel's private parking is unreasonable. Calling this place a hotel feels like a stretch. I wouldn't return; it ought to be demolished as soon as possible.
