Hotel Luianta

The setting is beautiful, and the food at the other tables smelled good. But we sat inside for 15 minutes and nobody once asked if we wanted a drink or anything to eat. The only thing we were asked was why we were sitting inside instead of outside. When we tried to order, the waiter walked right past us and was grumpy. He was plainly rude, so we left. Never again.

The view and location are nice, but lunch was disappointing. The lasagna came out cold, and when we mentioned it, they microwaved it. We also tried the gnocchi, goulash, and tuna salad, and none were very good. We had lunch here in winter. The place looks much nicer than the food turned out to be. Maybe the rest of Italy has spoiled us.

We came for lunch as a group of four, and the staff seemed to resent most of the guests. Service was extremely slow, and one person in our group waited well over an hour for his pizza. When it finally arrived, there was no apology, and it was clearly undercooked. Two others ordered lasagne that was barely warm. Both of them became unwell overnight with symptoms of food poisoning, which strongly suggests the food may not have been handled or cooked properly. The staff were also far from accommodating. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel or consider returning.

The restaurant was a highlight. We had half board, and dinner had enough options for everyone in our party. At breakfast there was a buffet with both hot and cold choices. The staff in the restaurant were attentive and went out of their way to work around my gluten and dairy sensitivities. For skiing, the hotel is in an amazing spot, right by the slopes near the top of a chair lift. There’s storage for skis and boots, with a drying rack that left our boots warm and dry each morning. The hotel is small, with friendly and helpful staff throughout. Our room was on the small side but perfectly adequate, and housekeeping kept it and the bathroom clean every day. It’s a wonderful little hotel in Colfosco, with beautiful views. We’re looking forward to coming back next year.
