Gasthof Pizzeria Unterwirt

I came to Italy for the first time and got to try real Italian pizza. It was delicious, with fresh ingredients, and everyone at the restaurant was so kind and welcoming that I felt at home right away. The view made it even more special. Surrounded by nature with the mountains behind us, it felt like a little piece of paradise. Highly recommend if you're visiting Italy.

The views from the terrace were magnificent, and we loved taking them in at breakfast and dinner. It was also a lovely place for romantic stargazing. Our evenings and nights were quiet and comfortable, without hearing neighbours or restaurant guests. Parking was plentiful. Usually we could leave the car just ten steps from our apartment entrance; when those spaces were taken, we parked just outside the hotel, where there were still plenty of spots. The road up may look challenging, with sharp bends and hairpin turns, but we got used to it quickly. Even our weak rental Lancia managed it easily after a few trips. There are regular buses too, with a nearby stop for anyone without a car. We stayed a wonderful week in the apartments, run along with the hotel and restaurant by a friendly, welcoming family. Our newly renovated room was clean and full of amenities, stayed cool even on the hottest days, and had brand new furniture and a fully equipped kitchen. The only nuisance was the automatic light in the entrance room, which switched on at night when someone walked past. It was a great place to stay, and we'd definitely come back.

Patrick made sure we had strong, excellent coffee each morning before heading out to explore the Dolomites. The clean, comfortable rooms were just what our tired legs needed after a day out. We came from Australia and had a bit of culture shock, but felt at home here. It was a perfect base for exploring.

The terrace has a magnificent view, and our modest room was clean and quiet. Prices are very reasonable. The interior isn't especially vegan friendly, with quite a few dead animal heads on the walls. Still, when I asked if a regular pizza could be changed to a vegan version, the chef did a fantastic job. Don't expect many vegan breakfast options, though at this small place they seem flexible. We asked for some vegetables and that was no problem. Their attitude makes me think that if you let them know ahead, they'd make scrambled tofu for you.
