Hotel Lido degli Scogli

I’ve always enjoyed coming here for lunch or dinner when I’m in Crotone, and now that I’ve stayed a couple of days, I can recommend the hotel too. My room was spotless, though it’s small by the standards of most upscale US hotels. Service is attentive, and there’s art throughout the hotel and restaurant, from the floors and ceilings to the walls. It feels like a living gallery. The private beach is pristine and makes for a peaceful break. For lunch today, Sunday, I had the spaghetti alle vongole and a glass of wine. The pasta was perfectly cooked, and the white wine sauce was just enough to keep it moist and delicious. The house white paired perfectly. Staff are always nearby to check that you have what you need. I’ve already booked dinner here for my family this week. I highly recommend both the hotel and restaurant. If you see the owner serving dishes or showing art, say hello. Mario is involved in every part of the hotel.

The owners, artist Mario Sposato and his brother, are wonderfully friendly, as is everyone working at this family hotel and its excellent restaurant. I stayed here for almost nine weeks, so I got to know the place well. It's right on the waterfront, with beautifully furnished, recently renovated rooms and a magnificent sea view at sunrise. The hotel has more the feel of a modern art museum. I can simply recommend it.

Fish is the main thing on the menu, so the non-fish choices are pretty limited. I found one antipasti without fish. Prices aren't especially low for an Italian restaurant, though most dishes cost between 10 and 20 euros. The restaurant has its own charm, and nearly all the decorations feel like part of a modern art exhibition.
