Hotel Vischi

The rooms are modern, and the hotel itself is very nice. We enjoyed the tasty breakfast and great view. We were there on some rainy days, though, so it was hard to judge the immediate surroundings.

Bruno at reception made a real difference to our stay at Hotel Vischi. When our train to Colico left us stranded late at night after more than six hours travelling from Manchester, he arranged a taxi to bring us safely to the hotel. The Italian Londoner was full of local knowledge throughout our visit and had great suggestions for hikes, bike rides, and food around Domaso. His enthusiasm and warm welcome meant a lot. The family suite we booked was spacious, very clean, and had tiled floors and everything we needed. For a 3-star hotel, it exceeded our expectations. Breakfast had plenty to choose from: fruit, cereals, breads, nuts, yoghurts, cold meats, and eggs. You can also book the spa privately for an hour, and borrow free bikes for gentle rides around the lake, though they’re best on flat ground. It was our first trip to Lake Como, and we stayed in Domaso in the north. It felt calm compared with the famous southern towns, but still had plenty of beauty and charm. The panoramic lake views are lovely, and the ferries let you explore the rest of Como at your own pace. A few things we learned: Domaso has nice restaurants with fresh lake fish, local vegetables, and good pizzerias. Bellagio and Varenna are worth visiting for their lively atmosphere, leather goods, silks, woodwork, coffee, and pasta. If you’re arriving from Milan Linate, plan carefully. Afternoon arrivals are best served by a pre-booked taxi, since train and ferry connections can be limited and affected by strikes. A taxi can cost around €240 one way. Hotel Vischi offered great value, peace, and a personal welcome. We’d happily return for the views, the quality, and especially the kindness we experienced.

Domaso wasn’t too crowded, which we liked. Our room was perfectly fine and had a small balcony with a nice view of the mountains and Lake Como. The breakfast was the best I’ve ever seen at this price. I recommend booking this hotel.

We stayed here with the family. The rooms were clean and spacious, the Wi-Fi was okay, and there was plenty of fresh breakfast with lots of healthy choices. There was enough room to park the car, and the staff were very friendly. The hotel is close to the lake and village, though the area can get busy and loud with so many tourists.
