Camping Portofelice

We spent 11 nights at Portofelice and had a very enjoyable holiday. The kids had a fantastic time, and we found the beautiful setting and clean, well-kept facilities appealing. Still, repeated customer service problems took some of the shine off what could have been a standout stay. I wanted to give a balanced, detailed account for anyone thinking of visiting.

We drove 14 hours expecting a vacation and left after just 2 days because staying here was unbearable. I don't complain easily, but this was a waste of our money and absolutely not worth it. The Wi-Fi barely worked, even in my room. Mosquitoes were another serious problem: my sister got at least ten bites in an hour outdoors, and an allergic reaction was bad enough that we had to take her to a hospital. The bungalow was filthy. There were cobwebs in every corner and nasty insects coming out from under the bed. Yellow stains covered the sheets and pillows, which felt completely unsanitary and unacceptable. When I raised it with the woman at reception, she offered to change the sheets and clean everything. That missed the point: why was it dirty and unsanitary to begin with? The pool smelled awful, like urine. I've been to lots of pools and never encountered a stench like that. I dipped in once and didn't go back. That evening I threw up twice after having that awful urine taste from the pool in my mouth.

We came at the end of May and into early June, and found the place mostly calm and relaxing, with a lovely atmosphere. The pine woods are picturesque, shady, and full of birdsong. Staff were friendly and very good, and the food and ice cream were quality. The pools and jacuzzis are great, and the beach is lovely. It's also well placed for visiting Venice, Caorle, and Lido de Jesolo. There are a few nuisances. Some drinks and supermarket food are quite pricey, though that's what you expect at more remote camps. If you're near the road, it can be noisy; we got used to it, and it quieted down once the Italian bank holiday passed. At the pool, loud music and water aerobics run for 1-2 hours twice a day. It was a bit annoying when hardly anyone was there, and perhaps once a day would be enough since some people are trying to relax. Oddly, when it was warmer and busier, we got into it. It's all in good spirit. The road and pool noise aside, it was a great holiday in a beautiful setting, and I'd definitely recommend it.

The beach is beautiful and the camping area is really nice, but the loud music carries on all day and into the late evening. It gets annoying, and if you don't sleep soundly in any conditions, it can keep you awake.
