Ruins B&B

I booked through booking.com because I was driving and chose the “car parking” option. The parking turned out to be hard to find, costs 10 euro extra, and is a 10 minute walk from the hotel, not across the street as they claimed. The hotel is an old building, and there were cockroaches in the bathroom. The beds were small and noisy. Breakfast was basically a complimentary croissant and bad coffee. I won't stay here again or recommend it.

The hotel worked as a budget base for a couple of nights while we visited Herculaneum. It’s ideally placed for the site, and Naples takes around 40 minutes once you’ve walked to the station and taken the train. Staff were friendly and helpful, and there’s a pleasant terrace. Our family room, called Sorrento, was okay, but its bathroom was tiny for four people. The double bed creaked so loudly that every turn woke everyone, and the mattress was rock hard and incredibly uncomfortable. Breakfast was a letdown: no fruit except some sad-looking apples, dried cucumber and tomatoes, very basic cheese and ham, and a toaster. The croissants were very sweet, and the coffee was rubbish. We wouldn’t want to stay more than a few nights.

The rooms were modern, clean and high quality, and the staff were outstanding, always ready to help. The location is very good, right opposite the entrance to Herculaneum.

After a long day, it was lovely to have drinks or pizza on the beautiful terrace. The location is perfect for visiting Herculaneum, and the service was great. They had extra sheets ready and helped arrange a taxi that accepted a virtual card when we had no cash. Breakfast was nothing unusual, but came with a nice sea view.
