Licata Mare

The owner was genuinely kind and helpful, and that’s why I gave this four stars. Honestly, three feels like the more accurate rating. We paid just €35, stayed one night, and had a reasonably clean room with a private bathroom and enough space and equipment for what we needed. There’s also a small shared kitchen with modern appliances, dishes, and even an espresso machine. The apartment is on the fifth floor, but there’s an elevator, and parking along the public road beside the building was easy. It’s a modest place in a working-class neighborhood, though the main sights are easy to reach by car or public transport.

The room was clean when we arrived, and the owner was kind and helpful. Still, guest care was lacking. Nobody cleaned the shared areas or topped up the already meager breakfast supplies. The fridge was full of partly opened bottles of water, wine, orange juice, milk, and other fruit juices, and the biscuits were expired. There were exposed, protruding radiator pipes, though the radiators themselves weren’t there. The balconies and window ledges were covered in pigeon droppings and looked as if they hadn’t been cleaned in ages, despite the deterrents. The apartment is on the fifth floor of a ten-story public housing building. And if the owner gives you advice on getting around Trapani in good faith, don’t rely on it completely.

I couldn’t upload my photos to Booking.com because they’ve been stuck awaiting approval for months, so I’m sharing them here. During my stay there was no housekeeping at all. I really can’t recommend it. This isn’t a hotel as advertised, but an apartment on the fifth floor of a run-down building.

The owner was helpful, and the apartment has everything you need except wifi. The building and the neighborhood, though, leave a lot to be desired. The apartment itself isn’t the worst.
