The views are amazing, and there’s a lovely courtyard out front where you can sit. Inside, the apartment was quiet and comfortable, with a charming feel, an excellent kitchen, and a lovely bathroom. Francesca and Pietro were friendly, quick to respond, and helped us with whatever we needed. We also enjoyed their homemade wine and olive oil, plus the free cake and eggs. We’ve visited Varigotti before and stayed by the beach and main street, so it was nice to see a different side of Varigotti and the wider Finale Ligure area. A car or scooter is a good idea here. The walk up and down is brutal if you have to do it several times a day, in hot weather, or after sunset.

The family who runs the place were incredibly friendly and helpful with everything. The house is full of beautiful, stylish details, and I came away with lots of ideas for decorating my own home. There’s also a great pool for cooling off in summer. During our stay it wasn’t warm enough to need it ;-)

Fresh homemade cake was waiting for us when we arrived, and we felt at home straight away. The owner was really nice and helpful, and there were lots of other little surprises too. The houses sit in an olive garden on a mountain, with a sea view, and many of the beautiful details inside are handmade. The garden is thoughtfully arranged, with a pool and places to relax among the trees. It’s a lovely place to experience Italy at its best 🇮🇹. One thing to keep in mind: there’s about 1 km of dirt road from the main street to the houses. We had no problem driving it by car or bike :)

The road up is a little challenging, but the reward is peace and quiet with a great view of Varigotti and the sea. The owners spent several years renovating this 17th century complex into holiday apartments, and the care they put into the details and comfort really shows. A fantastic place for a holiday. Personal tip: the trail to Nola is much longer than the one to Varigotti, but it’s easier and has great views.

I’ve stayed at ALea Lua twice and loved it both times. The view is hard to beat, and it’s beautiful even when it’s raining. I’ll be back.
